This tesserae piece is about what happens when cliques arise, and gossip takes on its own life force. Even though all the little houses appear to be overwhelmingly alike, it doesn’t prevent the isolation of one individual by the group for some perceived wrong.
Originally this was to be a study of little beach houses … with lots of sunlight and sand. However, as it progressed I noticed that the one house became more and more removed from the rest. The group of three became closer and closer and eventually couldn’t stand alone. They needed the support of their fellow gossips to balance out the strength of the one lone structure. A metaphor for cyberspace and the rule of the mob? Or simply an observation about the importance of standing one’s ground.
